Generations never struggles to make news, does it? But today is different; the show’s creator, Mfundi Vundla has confirmed that 16 (yes, SIXTEEN)  cast members have been fired from the show- effective immediately!

The rumours had been circulating for most of this afternoon, but Mfundi Vundla took the bull by the horns and made a radio appearance on the excellent Talk 702. He then confirmed the news fans of the show must be dreading: The Generations cast has officially been fired and none of them are ever coming back to Generations.

When asked if the cast’s departure is for good, Mfundi responded:

“That’s it! Finish and klaar. It’s a termination, it’s finished. We won’t be taking them back, we are running a business here and there has to be some resolve, we have to bring some certainty to the production. It’s final. This is the final decision we’ve made."

The show’s creator, while remaining cautious with his words, suggested he was fed up with the lack of professionalism shown by the cast members- some of whom had been on the show for over a decade.

“We asked them to turn up for work this morning [Monday morning]. They didn’t. We have accepted their refusal to perform services to Generations and given that we are terminating their economic relationship with Generations- with immediate effect”

We’re not sure if any of the cast members expected that it would one to this, and the next question on the lips of loyal fans and viewers is probably ‘will there still be a show after this?’ Mfundi Vundla wasted no time in assuring South African audiences that the show will continue to shoot.

“We have plans to continue with Generations. The actors found Generations and there will still be a Generations in the future for more new actors. Generations will go on, with or without these people. The fact that we’ve gotten rid of these people doesn’t mean it’s the demise of the series”

Earlier today we were talking about the Generations cast and their open letter- you can read it here, but it looks like it wasn't enough to save their job!

“We have episodes up until about October. So we have a few weeks to look for a new cast, we will do what we have to do. We are professionals and we will do what we have to do to ensure Generations will go on”

There were rumours that the Generations cast had been striking because they were not earning enough compared to their industry peers. Vundla quickly put these rumours to bed.

“They were completely unreasonable, let’s put it this way: Out of the 20 highest paid actors in this country: 12 of them are sitting on Generations”

WOW! What else is there to possibly say on this matter? It’s final though, your favourite actors on Generations are all GONE! The following actors have been confirmed as having their contracts terminated, with immediate effect:

Anga Makubalo (MJ Dlomo), Atandwa Kani (Samora Lembede), Katlego Danke (Dineo Dlomo), Mandla Gaduka (Selwyn “Choppa” Maithufi), Menzi Ngubane (Sbusiso Dlomo), Nambitha Mpumlwana (Mawande), Patrick Shai (Patrick Tlaole), Slindile Nodangala (Ruby Dikobe), Sophie Ndaba (Queen Ndaba), Seputla Sebogodi (Kenneth Mashaba), Thami Mngqolo (Senzo), Thato Molamu (Nicholas Nomvete), Winnie Ntshaba (Khetiwe Buthelezi), Zenande Mfenyana (Noluntu Memela), Zikhona Sodlaka (Priska Nomvete) and Zolisa Xaluva (Jason Malinga).
