Mpho Popps has just come forward and opened up about a scary robbery which threatened his life a few weeks ago. The comedian was lucky enough to escape safely after four robbers jumped him.
Mpho is one of the most hilarious people in the country, but it was no laughing matter last month when the comedian feared for his life. It all took place in the suburb of Orlando in Soweto where the funnyman was approached by four men who physically assaulted him and took his belongings.
Mpho was forced to open a case of common robbery at the Orlando Police Station in Soweto after the thieves ran off with his cellphone and more valuable goods.
A part of his statement to the police was shared with the Daily Sun team who said, “The complainant reports he came out of Kwalichaba, walking toward the motor vehicle and was approached by four coloured males.
“One of the males grabbed him and the others punched him in the face and started searching him and ran away with his cellphone. The total value of the cellphone is R2 000.”
Thankfully, the comedian appears to have recovered but when he was contacted for comment by the Daily Sun team, he chose to keep a low profile instead claiming that he did not want to compromise the investigation.
Mpho Popps becomes just the latest celebrity to fall victim to a criminal incident this year. The likes of Minnie Dlamini and Nathi Mankayi have all fallen victim to robberies this year alone but nobody felt the pain of crime more than Pdot O. The rapper had his car stolen on the day he was scheduled to perform at Back To The City.
As Rami Chuene says, the show must go on and he continued performing on the day even with the trauma of his hijacking in the back of his mind.
Let's hope that Mpho Popps' investigation is more successful than other celebrity criminal cases.
