Mshoza: I don’t hate being black

Mshoza is easily one of the most polarising figures in the local entertainment industry. She’s endured heavy criticism for her decision to lighten her skin, a process she began all the way back in 2011, with some going as far as accusing her of hating being black.

Fast-forward to 2015 and she’s still being criticised for her choice, but Mshoza revealed to ZAlebs that the decision to lighten her skin came as a result of a skin condition she developed after she had her second child, not because she hates being black.

“I’m a black woman and a proud black South African. People will not understand why I had to go through that procedure because it’s a medical situation that I’m still going through. It’s a medical condition that I have,” she said.

She added that her medical team is still working on a solution that would hopefully rid her of the condition permanently.

“I can’t apologise for my condition and decision. I’m not saying people should go bleach, it’s their choice. With me, I didn’t have a choice. It just so happened that after having my second child I developed a condition and this was my only way out. While others might look at this as a personal procedure, to me it’s much more personal than that.”
