When you think of Nonhle Thema, you can't help but remember that she had one of the coolest jobs in the TV industry.

She travelled the world as a host on Channel O, interviewing celebrities such as Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Diddy, 50 Cent and others. She then had her own reality show which documented her life in the United States of America.

Things took a turn for the worst when she had her Twitter rants, which led to the destruction of her career.

However, the TV personality has managed to bounce back and is in a happier space right now, and is grateful for all the negative experiences.

Speaking to Anele Mdoda on Real Talk, Nonhle reflected on her career, mentioning that she missed out on being a "real person". She was basically living the dream, but had no idea who she was and had no real friends around her. She also revealed that she wasn't prepared for the fame.

Anele made Nonhle emotional when she told her: "I don't think you ever told that you are a nice person, you are a kind person, you are a strong person."

Anele added: "And, I haven't been a mother for long, but I can see what affirmation does to a child, right? And commercial affirmation will get something done, but it doesn't last, but telling Nonhle that 'Nonhle, your character - character building - you are kind, you are strong, you are interesting, you are interesting', I don't think you were raised like that...

"When your mom was trying to get you out of a dark place, why was she constantly going to what you've achieved, and not who you are?", she asked Nonhle.

The former Vuzu and Channel O presenter replied: "I think for me, my achievements started becoming who I am. And no one, no one ever actually, even my own family they started just seeing me as this achievement... Even my fans, they forgot that I'm a human being."

She said when she went through her state of trying to discover herself, she needed to first also understand that she's human.

"I'm a human being. I'm  not a success machine who brings ratings, who sells products because that's who I had become all my life. I didn't know that I had feelings, I didn't know that I was kind, I didn't know that I could cry, that's why when one or two people said to me on Twitter that Nonhle we don't like your show [Nonhle Goes to Hollywood] I couldn't believe people could be mean to me because I wasn't used to that, I forgot that I'm human."

Nonhle continued: "That's why I'm saying I thank God that he showed me in such a public way and made a spectacle out of me - I was the laughing stock, I was humiliated - but I'm fine because today I found my dignity, I found my soul, and I found that I'm a human being and God has so much more in store for me than just success of a career that can be gone tomorrow."

She said everybody these days is chasing the fame, forgetting that that's not the purpose. She also revealed that she has outgrown fame. "I want now people when they see me, they see a human being, who is doing something that she loves, who can also fail but can also get up. And no longer being perfect because my entire career was so perfect that something so small, was snowballed into such a huge thing..."
