Oscar Trial: Oscar Pistorius served 5 years in prison

The day has finally arrived, “How many years would Oscar Pistorius spend behind bars” was the lingering question on everyone’s mind this morning. The question has now been laid to rest as Judge Masipa sentenced Oscar Pistorius to a maximum of 5 years in prison for culpable homicide.

Since Pistorius was accused of culpable homicide instead of murder Judge Masipa’s ruling had been unclear.

Judge Masipa’s reading of the sentence before announcing the actual years Oscar would spend behind bars sent mixed messages to the public. Divided about the results of the sentencing, some believed that Oscar Pistorius was going to receive a lenient sentence of less than 10 years whilst others were determined that Pistorius would receive an extensive period behind bars.

Since the sentencing has been announced, Oscar Pistorius will be taken to cells and fingerprinted. Those prints will be checked when he arrives in prison.
