Award-winning South African DJ and musician Prince Kaybee is one of the country's most sought-after music producers. The DJ has had an illustrious music career and has been involved in a number of solid business ventures, but recently he has been quiet and not dropping any hits.
Undoubtedly, Prince Kaybee would own the festive season with his summer hits, but this year he did not bless us with his music. Taking to his Twitter account he revealed why he did not release new music this year.
In light of amapiano and Tik Tok owning 2022, Prince Kaybee said he wanted others to have a chance to make music this year. He revealed this after a fan asked him why hasn't dropped new music this year.
“KB. Do you have new music bro? There’s a clear unignorable void in the music scene in SA and its your touch that’s missing. Please release soon or advise me on any new projects you’ve released. You’re a great artist, I enjoy your music,” the fan wrote.
In response, according to Prince Kaybee he did not drop music because amapiano is doing well and people are still in awe of the Tik Tok sensations.
“In my opinion there’s enough music out there. Amapiano is cruising nicely. Will release music once I see an opportunity to, for now its just gonna be wasted music because people are still in a trance of Tiktok sensation,” the DJ wrote.
In October Prince Kaybee revealed that it was such a drag to go to the studio and produce music. Fans advised him to not give up.
Arguably the last year that Prince Kaybee was touted as a certified hitmaker by the general public was back in 2019 when he released his highly acclaimed studio album Re Mmino. The album had hits-on-hits including Banomoya, Club Controller and the biggest song of 2019 Fetch Your Life featuring Msaki.
However, thereafter, the decline began. First, it was the release of his collaborative album Project Hope (Season 1), which saw him collaborate with up-and-coming young female voices to create the album. The album was meant to be supported by a reality show, but… It has been two years and nothing has come of it so far.
He then released The 4th Republic which was arguably overshadowed by the release of his manhood and the cheating scandal attached to his leaked nude. From The 4th Republic, he then released Gemini in 2020, and house heads and his fan base might have appreciated tracks from the album. Radio and general playlists have all but ignored the release of the album. This marks the second/third strike of a disappointing album for Prince Kaybee, depending on who you ask.
