All eyes on Mandisa Meyiwa

When reading recent stories of the tragic death of Senzo Meyiwa, eighty percent of the time the name that follows is that of Kelly Khumalo. As his death settles in, one name that’s starting to gain more coverage is that of his wife Mandisa Meyiwa.

Associated as Senzo’s “estranged wife” Mandisa just like Kelly has felt the stinging rage of the public who have also accused her of having some sort of linkage to Senzo’s death. Unfounded allegations of course, but one can only imagine what thoughts are running through Mandisa’s mind at this trying time.

She not only has to deal with the loss of her husband, but she also has to deal with the prying eye of the public that is attentively waiting to see what will unravel between her and Kelly Khumalo after Senzo has been laid to rest. Especially considering that both women share children with the now deceased Orlando Pirates goalkeeper and Bafana Bafana captain.

Although it’s been alleged that the Meyiwa family have no interest in Kelly Khumalo and her 10 month year old daughter Thingo, whom she conceived with Senzo. One wonders if Mandisa will side with the Meyiwa family and leave her daughters' half-sister in the lurch with the women who destroyed their marriage.

Let’s also not forget that in September 2013 Kelly physically assaulted Mandisa during an altercation on a highway that lead to Kelly Khumalo and her sister handing themselves in at the Hillbrow police station. Before this entire drama had ensued Senzo had approached Kelly who had enquired if Senzo was married, Senzo denied but later on Kelly learned that he was indeed married. By then Kelly had already fallen in love and Senzo’s marriage was in the rocks.

It’s a bit too soon to discuss, but the murmurs of Senzo’s will are beginning to be audible. Is baby Thingo in Senzo’s will? Will Kelly Khumalo demand child maintenance from the Meyiwa family? Will Mandisa bury the hatchet with Kelly and focus on raising his daughters? Only time will tell.

Here are just some of the few tweets that people have posted about Mandisa who is currently being criticized for still being in Johannesburg instead of in uMlazi at Senzo's home to mourn his death.
