Before stealing the viewers’ hearts on 1 Magic’s The River, Sindi Dlathu was known as Thandaza on Muvhango and after being on the popular show for 20 years, Sindi decided to take a leap of faith. However, her decision to leave Muvhango wasn’t an easy one.
While speaking to Thabo “Tbose” Mokwele on Kaya FM, she revealed: “I prayed about it a lot. The past seven years, I was just praying, and you know talking to God and asking him ‘is this it? Is this it?’ And I wanted to do something different, and I wanted to grow… I wanted to grow outside of my family that is Muvhango. I prayed about it for seven years, and when the time came, I knew it was the time. I still wasn’t sure.”
When asked about what made it certain, she explained that as she was praying, she asked God to “come down” and “take me by the hand and just guide me.” The actress added that she has never prayed that much.
“So, this morning I wake up at six and I go to my living room. I had to make a decision now. I prayed. She said as she was praying something said “oh you of little faith”. She further explained that she stood up and went to bed and slept.
During the interview, Sindi also spoke about the fact that 20 years is a long time. “It’s like a marriage. It’s like saying bye-bye to a marriage. So, I’m like ‘angazi ukuthi ngenze njani Jehova kodwa yini’ (I don’t know what to do, God).”
She said that “oh you of little faith” was a confirmation for her. “It confirmed ukuthi (that) this is the right time. This is the right time, this is the right moment.”
When asked if she’s happy with her new role as Lindiwe on The River, Sindi said: “Well, it’s a new space. New everything. You know change is good. I’m enjoying it, I’m enjoying Lindiwe…”
The telenovela premiered on 1 Magic in January this year and is a hit with viewers. Popular South African actress Renate Stuurman recently made her debut on the show, now starring alongside Sindi, Hlomla Dandala, Moshidi Motshegwa and others.
Renate, who stars as professor Sheree Jacobsen on the show, told Tshisa Live that she’s having a great time playing the character. “It’s been wonderful because I’ve always been such a big fan of the show.
