Entertainment commentator Phil Mphela gave the scoop on his popular channel The Entertainment Alert where he revealed that Durban Gen will be letting go of three cast members at the same time.
The telenovela is letting go of Lihle Dhlomo who played the role of Doctor Precious Dlamini, Sifiso Sibiya who played Bab' Gumede and Thulane Shange played Mandla.
Thulane joined the show recently, but will be let go very soon. This raises eyebrows because he is a pretty gifted actor. Many grew to love him on Uzalo but also left prematurely due to the same reasons, contractual issues.
"Our sources have informed us that Thulane Shange, who joined the show recently is being let go because of contractual disputes. Word is the actor and the production company [Stained Glass], could not reach an agreement on his fee," the voice over artist can be heard saying.
Phil further added that Durban Gen started off very bad when it comes to numbers as it failed to attract viewers. But as it progressed, they managed to earn over 2.5 million viewers for one of their episodes in March.
Durban Gen lost massive viewership last year and Phil, at the time reported that it lost R300 000 viewers in a space of a month.
"The medical drama series peaked at 2 Million viewers in November but sadly dropped to 1,75-million for their most watched episode in December 2020."
In a statement, Durban Gen promised to attarct viewers because they would relate to the storyline. "It is an honor to be warmly welcomed into the eFamily. The entire team, production, cast, and crew are incredibly excited to be working on the first-ever medical drama that will be set in KwaZulu-Natal. Durban Gen is a big win for Stained Glass T.V., for the KZN Province, and for the City of eThekwini. We believe that audiences will connect with the show's riveting storylines, exciting characters, and an incredible cast
Thulane is not new to this as he also reportedly got fired from Uzalo for a similar reason. He and his onscreen brother Sizwe Khumbuza both got fired because they failed to reach an agreement with the company.
Their disagreements allegedly caused them to have a fallout, creating tension amongst them.
