Singer, Nathi Mankayi, spoke candidly on his strained relationship with Vusi Nova on the latest episode of Behind The Label.
Their bromance, coupled with a good working relationship, started becoming rocky last year. Remember when Nathi left fans puzzled last year when he said during an interview that 'Vusi does not own me'? He refused to continue working with him as long as he was still with the independent record label, Muthaland Entertainment.
Nathi made revelations about the shady dealings at Muthaland by the owner Lance Stehr; also adding that he left Muthaland because he felt 'controlled' by the label. He claims that there is still tension between them but Nathi said he has no beef with Vusi.
The Nomvula hitmaker revealeved that Vusi played a role in Nathi's career (which is pretty much public knowledge) by introducing him to the management at Muthaland, which the he started working with. But, no contractual agreements were involved which made it hard for Vusi to air out any complaints. "The one person I had hoped will stand up for me distanced himself," he said.
Nathi claimed that Vusi never bothered asking what happened between him and the label and that's when he made the decision to distance himself from his ex-BFF.
"I chose to be independent but after that I had to do everything by myself. Anything that involved my new albums because I felt neglected. I then realized that the rumours that were circulating about Lance Stehr that he was abusing artists were true."
Behind The Label is a platform where artists can spill the beans on everything that happens between them and record labels, including exploitation and contractual disputes.
In next weeks episode it is said that Nathi, Vusi and Lance will be appearing to clear the air on some of the allegations made.
Tweeps spoke out saying they believe Nathi.
