The foundation of any good outfit is good lingerie

Every woman deserves more than a matching set of beige lingerie or a 6-pack of colorful cotton panties. The minute you develop a pair of breasts (and some hair you’d rather not have), it is time to graduate beyond cotton on polyester underwear.

Lingerie isn’t only for when you know your man is coming over (although he'd REALLY appreciate it), it can also do a number of great things for you that you may not have thought of.

It lifts your mood

When you have on a great-looking, matching set of underwear that fits you well, you will instantly feel better and that mood and attitude will spill over into the rest of your day. In fact, a lot has been written about the positive psychological effect that wearing good lingerie has on women, proving that it goes beyond sexuality involving another person.

Lingerie goes beyond bras and panties as there are a number of other things one can wear. With everything from corsets, bustiers and stockings to teddies, garters, slips and robes - the options are endless.

It puts things where they need to be

What all these things also serve to do is hold everything in the right place so that whatever clothing you put over them sits well, you just have to figure out what the right combination of lingerie is for your favourite outfit.

Good lingerie remains hidden

While many women love to opt for the simple t-shirt bra and boyshorts or bikini cut cotton briefs in white, black or beige, these aren’t always the most flattering option. Bra straps often stick out of clothing and panties usually cause an unsightly visible panty line - that’s if they aren’t sticking out the top of your jeans or trousers.

Until recently, the colour nude didn’t include shades found in the African community so women of colour had to settle for beige and other related Caucasian colors. But we don’t have to do that anymore! We have a number of options when it comes to colours that suit our skin tones as well as more exciting options thanks to a group of exciting local business women like Gugu Nkabinde, the founder of Gugu Intimates - Africa's first skin-colored underwear brand.

See ladies, we no longer have a reason to wear hideous, old, beige or faded underwear. Now go out there and get your sexy on!
