It's always encouraging seeing South African brands being worn by Hollywood stars, just like a few months ago when Harry Potter actress Emma Watson wore local accessories brand Pichulik in a shoot.
It is precisely so considering the cancerous perception that local brands are of an inferior quality. Perhaps if we see more examples of global stars confidently adoring local brands, that could go a long way in proving this perception false. As in any other country, there are many not-so-great locally made goods, but there are also many brands that carefully consider quality workmanship, and they deserve our support.
Yesterday, images of Lupita circulated Twitter as many gagged over how beautiful she looked. Some soon noticed that the painterly print dress she was rocking is by none other than the local label Selfi.
Selfi is owned by Cape Town's Celeste Arendse, and is one of the eight local brands in Woolworth's Style-by-SA range, currently retailing at several stores around the country.
The dress worn by Lupita is from the brand's spring-summer 2016 range.
