The nineties were such a vibe. Denim cut off shorts, plaid, bandanas, dungarees and velvet are among some of the era’s biggest trends that have recently made a comeback.
This trend is equal parts chic and edgy and it plays right into the prevailing sports luxe vibe in the form of the season’s biggest trend – tracksuits.

Now you’re probably rolling your eyes and thinking “I’ve seen (and worn) velour tracksuits, this is nothing new” but gone is the hideous hipster/bell-bottom shape of yesteryear. We do slim fits now.

Locally, and recently, the trend has been worn by the likes of Lerato Kganyago, Amanda DuPont, Nadia Nakai and Nomuzi Mabena as well as Insta fashionistas, Vanessa Matsena and Mihlali Ndamase.

It’s not all about female athleisure however, as the trend can be worn in the form of a blazer by both men and women.

It can even be worn on shoes, like creepers, chunky sandals or boots, or used in home decor on things like cushions, couches and throws.

Velvet is also a perfect material to wear in the upcoming colder months as it allows you to keep warm while looking ultra stylish. The fact that it can be worn casually, professionally or on the red carpet means that it is also extremely versatile.
