Famous SA Faces at the 2018 Laureus Sports Awards

Famous faces and super athletes from across the world have all descended upon Monaco, a tiny independent city-state on France’s Mediterranean coastline, for the 2018 Laureus Sports Awards which take place today and will be hosted by the star of Marvel’s Doctor Strange, Benedict Cumberbatch.

Established in 1999, the ceremony seeks to honor individuals and teams from the world of sports for their sporting achievements throughout the year.

* Fun fact: The first ceremony was held on 25 May 2000 in Monte Carlo at which Nelson Mandela gave the keynote speech.

Our very own Akani Simbine and Caster Semenya are also in Monaco for the ceremony in which Semenya will be competing in the Sportswoman of the Year category.

Also in attendance are Top Billing’s Maps Maponyane and Jeannie D, Elana Afrika, Siv Ngesi and Ryk Neethling. Trend forecaster, Dion Chang and CEO of Skududu Media Dan Nicholl are also in attendance. Check out some snaps in the gallery below:
