Anyone who knows me knows that I am a lingerie aficionado (a lover of all things lingerie). Add to that my love of Thando Thabete and it was only natural that I attend the first ever public showcase of a project that has been months in the making, Thabooty's by Thando Thabete.
According to team Thabethe, Thabooty’s Underwear & Shapewear"marks the beginning of a new era for women of all shapes, sizes, colours and creeds, providing a new calibre of comfort, style and support not currently found in off-the- rack stores."
Thabethe explains that the idea to start an underwear & shapewear range was inspired by her struggles to find off-the-rack shapewear that was both appealing to the eye as well as functional. Those of us who have had experience with shapewear know that if it's not squeezing the life out of you or showing unappealing lines, then it's rolling up whenever you move.
"Thabooty’s Underwear & Shapewear provides a new outlook on shapewear, with sexy, appealing garments you won’t want to keep hidden" explains Thabethe in a statement.
"I wanted to create something women wouldn’t be ashamed to wear, and something that would meet my functional needs. Whether it was to even out, control or contour, I needed something that wouldn’t roll down my body or make me feel like I was wearing a blanket underneath my clothes,” said Thabethe.
By the sounds of things, this is only the beginning for Thabethe and Thabooty’s as she refers to last night's range #IAMWOMAN, as a maiden range (maiden meaning first). The range celebrates iconic women as well as the visual representation of women using the art of photography.
Her camp further explains that under the hashtag and using Thabooty’s Underwear & Shapewear as the focal point, Thabethe hopes to impart her own philosophies around women practicing self love, reclaiming their bodies and being comfortable in their skin while also disposing of the fallacy that women dress for men. In the same way she did while participating in the much-talked-about 2017 Marie Claire Naked Issue.
Last night's official launch, which took place at Randlords in Johannesburg felt like a fancy slumber party, especially with the 'pyjama chic' theme (which Mzansi Magic Lockdown actresses, Zola Nombona and Busisiwe Mtshali shut all the way down in their gorgeous lingerie).
The launch featured a fashion show exhibiting pieces from the #IAMWOMAN range while DJs, Thando Thabethe, DJ Fresh, PH and Ms Cosmo provided the sounds that kept ZAlebs and attendees partying well into the night.
Check out some pictures from the evening.
Thabootys Underwear & shapewear will be available online at www.thandothabethe.com and the store is currently taking pre-orders.
