Iconic lead singer Claire Johnson and her impressive 11-piece band are scheduled to play at the gardens on 22 December, and she says she loves performing in the picturesque environment.
Speaking to Times Live, Johnson said of the upcoming, once-off show: “Kirstenbosch is undoubtedly one of our favourite South African venues, and it has become a bit of an annual institution for us.
“An exquisite natural setting, amazingly warm and responsive audiences, and all of this in one of the most beautiful cities in the world: heaven!”
2013 has been an interesting year for Johnson, who has been hard at work recording her first solo album.
A compilation of much-loved hits through the South African ages, Johnson collaborated with numerous local artists for this debut offering.
“It has been an honour, a privilege and a hugely humbling experience to work with the artists who so graciously agreed to collaborate with me on the key songs: Zolani Mahola, Theuns Jordaan, Juanita Du Plessis, Kurt Darren, Rebecca Malope, Romanz, Tsepo Tshola and Vusi Mahlasela,” she said of the unique variety of artists willing to lend her their voices.
“These are all such iconic performers and it meant so much to me that they agreed to come on board.”
The album is expected to drop in February 2014, and the group is also set to head overseas for a huge tour of Australia and New Zealand during the months of February and March.
