A total of 100 football sides in Lagos have entered the maiden APC/Ajide Unity Cup, with the tournament set to bring teams together across the city from the outset.
The competition offers cash prizes worth ₦2 million and is backed by Honourable Tajudeen Ajide, a former player and chairman of Surulere Local Government. Its stated aim is to use football as a tool for promoting unity, while also rallying support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) and APC candidates across the state.

Organising committee chair and former Nigeria international Tajudeen Disu said team registration carries no fee. He added that fixtures will be staged across all five divisions affiliated to the Lagos State Football Association, with leading outfits earning passage to the grand finale.
Disu also revealed that the event has been endorsed by the Lagos State Football Association, led by Hajji Gafar Liameed. With the green light in place, the organisers are now pushing toward the opening stages of the contest.
In terms of prizes, the champions are set to collect ₦1 million, while the first runner-up will take home ₦500,000. Alongside the main awards, several individual honours are planned for top performers throughout the tournament.
The APC/Ajide Unity Cup is expected to begin next month. The organisers have scheduled an official press conference and the tournament draws for early June as preparations move into the final phase.
