Adeboye Set for International Award at Templar-Adrenale Grassroots Basketball Meet

Hon. Adeyinka Anthony Adeboye, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development, is set to receive a major international recognition award from partners based in the United States of America. The accolade will be handed to him in recognition of his office’s steady work in promoting grassroots sport and youth empowerment across Nigeria. The presentation will take place at the Final Selection Event of the Templar-Adrenale Athlete Development Initiative on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at the newly refurbished Dolphins Basketball Court in Mongoro, Ikeja, Lagos.

The decision to honour the presidential envoy underscores a deeper connection between national sports administration and organised youth development. Through its partnership with the Templar-Adrenale initiative, Hon. Adeboye’s office has demonstrated strong federal support for programmes designed to narrow the gap between homegrown talent and global opportunities. The initiative also points to a shift in how Nigerian sport is being built—where identifying talent is only the beginning of a structured route toward sustained excellence.

The award comes as part of one of the biggest grassroots basketball events Nigeria has hosted in recent times. More than 200 of the country’s most promising young players—aged between 13 and 18—are expected to arrive in Lagos following months of intensive talent scouting. The process began at the National Sports Festival in Abeokuta and then continued across multiple states.

For the athletes involved, the showcase offers a potentially life-changing chance. The players who earn selection through the evaluation will make up the first official group into the Templar-Adrenale High-Performance Development Program. The programme is designed to deliver top-level basketball coaching alongside mentorship, educational assistance, character development, and international exposure.

There has been significant buzz around the gathering within Nigerian sports circles, with coaches, scouts, stakeholders, and media organisations expected to turn out in Lagos. With the Presidency, local supporters, and international partners now united behind Hon. Adeboye’s grassroots agenda, the event is shaping up to be a defining moment for the country’s sporting future.
