Assim Madibo Suspended for Five Games After Red Card Injures Ismael Kone

Sports

Qatar midfielder Assim Madibo has received a five-game suspension after a challenge on Canada forward Ismael Kone during the World Cup.

Red card leads to further punishment

Madibo, 29, was shown a red card in Qatar’s 6-0 loss last Thursday. The dismissal followed a foul in which Kone was injured, with the incident ultimately resulting in a broken leg.

Injury update and tournament impact

Kone suffered fractures to both the tibia and fibula in his lower left leg. The 24-year-old, who is now with Italian club Sassuolo, is set to miss the remainder of the tournament.

He underwent surgery shortly after the match in Vancouver. Madibo visited him in hospital following the operation.

FIFA decision and appeal process

FIFA’s disciplinary committee has handed down a five-match ban for serious foul play. The suspension is subject to appeal.
