Match Day 2: Eagles survive thriller as Sharks respond in style

  1. Central Eagles produced the tournament’s biggest drama so far, edging Eastern Elephants by a single run in a match that swung repeatedly in the closing stages.
  2. Asked to bat first, the Eagles reached 157/4 from their 20 overs, driven by wicketkeeper-batsman Selim Salau’s sensational innings of 83 off 61 balls.
  3. Salau struck four fours and launched seven sixes as he built the foundation for the total, with Useni Prosper finishing with unbeaten 22 off nine deliveries.
  4. Eastern Elephants launched a determined chase, led by Ipoli Victor, whose counterattacking 52 off 35 balls kept the pressure on throughout the run chase.
  5. Central Eagles held their nerve in the final overs, using crucial run-outs to rein in the chase and restrict the Elephants to 156/9.
  6. With victory decided on the final delivery, the one-run margin left spectators on edge until the end; Salau was awarded Player of the Match for his match-defining knock.
  7. Southern Sharks then followed up with a convincing 48-run win over Western Dolphins, bouncing back sharply after their opening-day loss.
  8. Isesele Odion Evangel set the tone for the Sharks with a fearless 54 off 31 balls that included 11 boundaries, while Kenneth Boniface added explosive support by making 47 off 25 deliveries.
  9. The Sharks posted 176/7 in their 20 overs, giving themselves a platform that Western Dolphins could not undo.
  10. Western Dolphins struggled to get close to the target despite a quick 35 off 21 balls from captain Vincent Adewoye.
  11. Ayeni Precious and Ismail Abdullahi took two wickets each as Southern Sharks bowled the Dolphins out for 128 in 16.4 overs.
  12. Isesele Odion Evangel was named Player of the Match for his all-round impact in the Sharks’ win.
