Nigerian sprinting standout Favour Ofili is set to return to top-level international action on June 4, taking part in the women’s 200 metres at the Rome Diamond League meeting.
The 22-year-old—currently ranked eighth in the world for the event—will face a highly competitive lineup featuring Olympic champion Julien Alfred from Saint Lucia, world champion Melissa Jefferson-Wooden of the United States, and British record holder Dina Asher-Smith.
Ofili’s comeback comes after a period away from the track circuit lasting several weeks, following the administrative breakdown of her proposed nationality switch to Turkey. Entering the race with a season-best time of 22.46 seconds, recorded in Gainesville, Florida, she will be looking to use the Rome stop as a key chance to reaffirm her standing among the sport’s leading 200-metre sprinters ahead of the major championships later in the summer.
