Fenerbahçe are preparing to respond after suffering a fourth consecutive season of defeats at the hands of their eternal rivals, Galatasaray, and the club’s next statement could arrive in the form of major moves in the transfer market. The Turkish giants are now aiming to secure both Ademola Lookman and Liverpool icon Mo Salah, with the intent of making a statement before the summer truly gets underway.
Fenerbahçe presidential candidates Aziz Yıldırım and Hakan Safi are working at pace with their respective teams, intent on delivering headline transfer news ahead of the organisation’s congress scheduled for June 6–7.
Both contenders are understood to be pushing for agreements involving Lookman and Salah, as they look to strengthen the squad with high-profile arrivals.
Back in January, Fenerbahçe had already reached terms for both Lookman and the player’s then-club Atalanta, with the deal understood to be settled on all key points. At that stage, the club even had a contract ready to be signed.
Yet the situation changed when Atalanta required a bank guarantee. With the Sadettin Saran administration refusing to provide that guarantee, the negotiations did not move forward as planned. Atletico Madrid then stepped in and completed the transaction.
Now, Yıldırım and Safi are exploring new routes to bring Lookman—an option fans have been pushing for with growing impatience—to Fenerbahçe.
They have been buoyed by the most recent reports from Spain suggesting that Atletico are willing to consider a sale of the Super Eagles star, potentially allowing Fenerbahçe to secure him for a fee that represents a profit for the Spanish club.
