Trabzonspor have set a valuation of €40 million for Nigerian centre-back Chibuike Nwaiwu as scrutiny from clubs across Europe keeps intensifying.
The 22-year-old has followed a striking upward path since making the move to Turkey, and he is now drawing tangible interest from German titleholders Bayer Leverkusen as well as Premier League outfit Fulham, among other suitors.
Reports from Turkey suggest that several clubs have already made enquiries and submitted offers in the region of €20 million. Trabzonspor have rejected those proposals outright, insisting they have no intention of opening discussions unless their stated price is met.
Fulham are thought to see Nwaiwu as a long-term defensive solution, particularly as questions linger over the future of Calvin Bassey and Issa Diop at Craven Cottage.
Trabzonspor’s leadership are reportedly confident the defender’s market value will continue to rise. They point to his athleticism, calm decision-making and ability to operate in multiple roles, and they are willing to wait for a deal only if the asking figure is paid in full.
Nwaiwu’s rapid development has also strengthened his standing as one of Nigeria’s most exciting defensive prospects currently plying his trade in Europe.
