Imo State League Kicks Off in Owerri as 17 Clubs Start 2026 Campaign

The Imo State Football Association (Imo FA) begins its 2026 State League today at the Dan Anyiam Stadium training grounds in Owerri, with opening-round contests arranged over seven matchdays.

Three games were originally set for the first matchday, but the early fixture between Umuakuma United and Heroes FC has been postponed following a request from Umuakuma United. Two other clashes will still go ahead on schedule: Akabo United taking on Markan FC and Hawks FC hosting Zenith Stars FC, before KHP FC meet Galaxy FC in the final game of the day.

Play continues tomorrow with Evermore FC against Silversports FC, Chika FC up against Madoka FC, Imo Buffalos FC facing Anchor FC, and Onyema FC against Diamond FC.

Matchday Three, scheduled for June 25, starts with Elite FC beginning their season against Royal Rangers FC. The slate then continues with Heroes FC versus Akabo United, Markan FC playing Umuakuma United, and Zenith Stars FC taking on KHP FC.

Matchday Four arrives on June 29 and includes Galaxy FC against Hawks FC, Silversports FC meeting Chika FC, Madoka FC facing Evermore FC, and Anchor FC lined up against Onyema FC.

On June 30, Diamond FC will play Imo Buffalos FC, while Royal Rangers FC meet Brazilkar United. Earlier rivalry games also feature as Umuakuma United renews their matchup with Akabo United, before Markan FC take on Heroes FC.

July 1 offers four more fixtures: Hawks FC versus KHP FC, Galaxy FC against Zenith Stars FC, Evermore FC playing Chika FC, and Madoka FC meeting Silversports FC.

The initial stage wraps up on July 2 with Imo Buffalos FC against Onyema FC, Diamond FC taking on Anchor FC, and Brazuca FC facing Elite FC.

The Imo FA has branded the competition “Raising Stars, Building Champions,” framing it as a pathway for nurturing grassroots talent across the state.
