Khadijat Stuns Toluwalose to Reach Women’s Singles Quarterfinals at CBN

Top seed Mohammed Khadijat continued her strong run at the ongoing 47th Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Senior Tennis Championship, brushing aside wild card entrant Agunbiade Toluwalose with a convincing 6-1, 6-0 win to book her spot in the women’s singles quarterfinals.

Khadijat is set to take on Godwin Favour today, with a place in the semifinals on the line.

Udofia Mary also confirmed her status as a quarterfinal contender, delivering a clinical 6-1, 6-2 victory over Otu Blessing. Udofia will play Ogunjobi Success in the last eight after Ogunjobi powered to a 6-0, 6-3 second-round win against Samuel Gloria.

In other women’s matches, Omotayo Blessing earned her quarterfinal berth by defeating Bamidele Abosede 6-2, 6-2. She will face a stern challenge today against second seed Emmanuel-Essien Bright. Elsewhere, Bassey Etoro is scheduled to meet Suwa Nenrot, who advanced after a dominant 6-1, 6-0 win over Olaniyan Abosede.

Turning to the men’s singles, tournament favourite and top seed Abua Canice overcame Sani Musa 6-4, 6-3. Abua will now face Mohammed Dahiru, who progressed by beating Chinedu Sunday 6-1, 6-2.

In another men’s fixture, Michael Chima defeated Sani Yahaya 6-2, 6-2 to set up a quarterfinal against wild card Edward David.

Meanwhile, the men’s second seed, after a comfortable previous outing that saw him dispose of Onyekachi Ogunjiofor 6-1, 6-1, had to fight for the final quarterfinal position against wild card entrant Muhammed Amir.
