Jürgen Klopp looks set to take over as Germany’s next head coach after Julian Nagelsmann stepped aside from the role.
Nagelsmann resigned following Germany’s surprise exit from the World Cup at the round of 32, where the team were knocked out by Paraguay.
In a statement, DFB president Bernd Neuendorf said: “The German Football Association would like to express its clear thanks to Julian Nagelsmann for the work he has carried out since September 2023. He has shown a high level of commitment and extraordinary ambition. Julian Nagelsmann is also an extremely responsible and sincere individual, and we all value him.”
The DFB added: “When it comes to naming a successor, the DFB leadership will now move into discussions with Jürgen Klopp. He has already indicated that he is generally open to taking up the position.”
There was further drama in the round of 32 on a tense day at the tournament, with both Germany and the Netherlands falling in penalty shoot-outs—Germany losing to Paraguay and the Netherlands eliminated by Morocco.
