Lagos Badagry Clubs Overwhelm Registration for Debut Ajide/APC Unity Cup

Sports

Forty football teams from the Badagry Division of the Lagos State Football Association’s divisional structure have registered in large numbers for the debut Ajide/APC Unity Cup, with the event set to begin later this month.

The Local Organising Committee (LOC) says the registration has now been shut because the competition attracted more entries than anticipated. In addition to the Badagry contingent, there are 20 clubs each from the Epe and Ikeja divisions, while Lagos Division and Ikorodu Division have contributed 24 and 22 teams respectively—taking the total past the 100-team mark.

Tajudeen Disu, who chairs the organising committee and is a former Nigeria international, stated that fixtures will be staged across all five divisions affiliated with the Lagos State Football Association. He added that teams will battle for qualification, with the leading sides advancing to the quarter-final round.

Hon. Tajudeen Ajide, the tournament sponsor, revealed that the championship has been endorsed by the Lagos State Football Association, led by Hajji Gafar Liameed. The overall winner will receive ₦1 million, while the first and second runner-ups are set to collect N500,000 and N300,000 respectively.

Ajide also confirmed that the competition will include multiple individual awards to recognise standout players throughout the tournament.
