Organisers have confirmed the line-up for the 2026 Tojemarine Invitational Handball Championship, set to be staged in Lagos from July 16 to July 25.
The event, organised by Tojemarine Sport Club under the theme “Building Champions, Inspiring Communities,” will bring together 18 clubs from Nigeria, Ghana and the Republic of Benin.
Competition will be split by gender, with 10 teams taking part in the men’s tournament and eight clubs competing in the women’s programme, positioning the championship among the largest club handball spectacles in West Africa.
As hosts, Tojemarine Handball Club headline the men’s draw, joined by Nigerian sides Rima Strikers of Sokoto, Delta Force of Asaba, Niger United of Minna and De-Defenders of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps. The field also includes Benin Republic teams Energie, ASPAC and Adidja HC, alongside Ghana Police Service and Health Life Global Handball Club from Ghana.
In the women’s competition, Nigeria’s clubs are SOOF Handball Club, Seasider Babes of Lagos, Plateau Peacocks and Rima Babes of Sokoto. Ghana will be represented by Ghana Police Service and Ghana Prisons Service, while Flowers HC and ASPAC HC will carry the flag for the Republic of Benin.
The organisers say the championship is designed to offer a stage for West African clubs to display their talent, raise the level of competition and further strengthen sporting relationships across the region. They also point to the presence of teams from Ghana and the Republic of Benin as proof of the tournament’s expanding international pull and its growing weight within the West African handball calendar.
They add that the tournament is expected to play an important role in the development of the sport by placing players and coaches in high-intensity contests, while also delivering fans a compelling mix of skill, athleticism and fair play.
With preparations now well underway, expectations are building for what is set to become one of the standout club handball events in the region in 2026. The Tojemarine Invitational Handball Championship is an initiative of Tojemarine Sport Club aimed at advancing the game and creating pathways for athletes to thrive at both domestic and international levels.
