Abdu Maikaba, the newly named head coach of Nigeria’s Under-20 men’s national team, has assembled his coaching team with a view to reshaping the Flying Eagles squad. Maikaba has brought in Ortega Deniran as first assistant, Abdullahi Biffo as second assistant, and Usman Mohammed as the goalkeepers’ trainer as he looks to build a side capable of making Nigeria proud.
Maikaba revealed the appointments on Thursday. The move comes as his squad is scheduled to return to camp in Abuja on Sunday, 17 May, with plans to begin preparations in earnest for the forthcoming WAFU B Under-20 Boys Championship in July.
The WAFU B Under-20 Boys Championship will also function as the qualifying tournament for next year’s Africa Under-20 Cup of Nations. Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have won the continental title seven times.
Meanwhile, Eboboritse Uwejamomere has been appointed head coach of Nigeria’s Under-17 boys team and has named his support staff to help construct a new Golden Eaglets group. His assistants are Olumide Joseph Ajibolade as first assistant, Mohammed Kalli Kachala as second assistant, and Abdullahi Isa as the goalkeepers’ trainer, with the aim of guiding Nigeria back to the FIFA Under-17 World Cup finals and pushing for a sixth global championship.
The WAFU B Under-17 Boys Championship is set to take place in September and will serve as the qualifying pathway for next year’s Africa Under-17 Cup of Nations.
