Festus Kayamo, Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, said the crew of a private jet that touched down on a concrete road still under construction in the Ogwashi-Uku area near Asaba have been taken into custody while authorities investigate the incident. Kayamo made the disclosure in a statement posted on X on Wednesday.
He said the aircraft had been halted after aviation regulators had grounded the jet and revoked the operator’s permit for non-commercial flights (PNCF). Kayamo added that the stop order followed what he described as a major violation of aviation rules, alongside concerns related to regulatory compliance and security.
According to the minister, after the jet landed on “Asaba Road,” it proceeded to depart toward Lagos State only after receiving the required authorisations.
Kayamo also stated that he had spoken with relevant security organisations and had been assured that the crew are currently in custody and cooperating with the investigation.
