Nigerian grid operator the Nigerian Independent System Operator has pushed back the planned downtime affecting the Bauchi–Gombe 330kV transmission line, extending the outage window and moving the expected completion to 30 July 2026. In a customer update issued on Wednesday, Communications Officer Blessing Tunoh said the extended outage will run from 2 July through 30 July 2026.
The operator said the change is intended to give contractors more time to complete installation work for Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) along the Bauchi–Gombe single-circuit 330kV corridor. It also cited the need to make up for days lost during the earlier outage period that had already been approved, with the goal of ensuring the upgrade is finished fully while meeting required technical standards.
The notice added that the OPGW upgrade is part of broader efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s transmission infrastructure and raise system reliability across the wider grid. Customers were asked to remain patient during the extended outage, with assurances that once the work is completed it will improve electricity service delivery.
The development was also communicated to electricity users connected to the Yola Electricity Distribution Company network through the company’s official channels.
