Four Nigerian wrestlers have set off for Mongolia to take part in the third round of the United World Wrestling (UWW) Ranking Series, with the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF) confirming the trip.
The squad includes Genesis Mercy Miesinnei in the 50kg category, Ogunsanya Christianah Tolulope at 53kg, Kolawole Esther Omolayo at 62kg, and Ojo Damola Hannah at 76kg. The athletes departed Nigeria on Monday night aboard Turkish Airlines.
Heading the delegation is Akuh Purity, a women’s wrestling coach and chairman of the NWF Technical Committee. Purity praised NWF President Bashir Adewale Adeniyi for ensuring the full logistics and participation expenses for the team were handled.
“I want to, on behalf of the athletes and the entire wrestling community, express our profound appreciation to the President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, for his unwavering support and commitment to the welfare of Nigerian wrestlers,” Purity said. “His contribution continues to create opportunities for athletes to compete at the highest level and showcase Nigeria’s talent on the global stage.”
Purity added that the wrestlers’ main target in Mongolia is to earn ranking points that will bolster their positions worldwide and help improve their seedings ahead of the World Championships.
“We look forward to outstanding performances that will make the nation proud,” Purity concluded.
