Seven years after the death of former football coach Solomon Ogbeide, his family has used the anniversary to offer thanks to God for carrying them through a period marked by grief and adjustment.
In a conversation with Sports Unlimited, his widow, Mrs. Ndidi Ogbeide—wife of the ex-coach of Sunshine Stars and Lobi Stars—said she believes God has remained steadfast to the household throughout the years. Although she noted that the family still feels the loss deeply, she added that their faith has helped them endure the pain that comes with life without him.
“Today marks seven years since my husband and lovely father passed, and we glorify God for standing by us,” Mrs. Ogbeide said.
She continued: “By His grace and mercy, we have remained strong. The children are doing great, though they continue to miss their father.”
Mrs. Ogbeide also described Ogbeide as a man whose influence continues to be felt beyond his time in the game. “Solo was a good man who continues to guide me and the children. The legacy of the good and godly life he lived radiates over us — we get things done with little effort when people realise we are his family. I thank God that Coach was a believer and a pillar in God’s vineyard. May his soul continue to rest in peace,” she added.
Alongside her personal reflections, Mrs. Ogbeide expressed gratitude to friends of her late husband who have kept supporting the family since his passing.
“Some of his friends have also been very helpful. At short notice, they are always ready to assist the family — we are truly grateful,” she said.
