Registration for Nigerian athletes and other participants in the 11th Okpekpe International 10km Road Race will end on Saturday, May 23, 2026, the race organisers have confirmed.

The event, which carries World Athletics Gold Label status, is set for Saturday, May 30, in Okpekpe, located in Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State.

Race Director Zack Amodu urged runners to complete their entries without delay through Okpekperoadrace.com, explaining that the closing date is intended to support proper logistics and timely accreditation. Bib collection and accreditation will be held at Uyi Grand Hotel (poolside) in Auchi on Friday, May 29, 2026.

Organisers highlighted the race’s special standing in the sport, pointing to its place as the first road running competition in Nigeria that was measured on a World Athletics-certified course. They also noted it was the first event in West Africa to earn a World Athletics Label, and said it is conducted in line with World Athletics regulations. With Pamodzi Sports Marketing behind the staging, the meeting continues to draw high-level athletes while also building community interest across the wider region.

Since its inaugural edition in 2013, the Okpekpe 10km has been described as having impact beyond athletics. Organisers say it promotes social unity, supports healthier lifestyles, and helps drive economic activity in Edo State and throughout Nigeria.

“The Okpekpe race has become a platform for showcasing our culture, hospitality, and commitment to excellence,” Amodu said.

Amodu added that the contest’s international reputation makes it especially appealing to corporate sponsors. “The Okpekpe race is not just about competition; it is about connecting brands with people, culture, and excellence,” he remarked.

Sponsors, organisers said, can look forward to global exposure through overseas media coverage, broad community reach involving thousands of participants and spectators, and hospitality opportunities in Edo State’s lively cultural environment. The race also offers an effective platform for health and lifestyle branding, aligning sponsors with themes of fitness, wellbeing, and social cohesion.
