Team Nigeria hammer throw athlete Oyesade Olatoye says the honour of representing her country remains a driving force, even after years competing among the sport’s elite.
Speaking after winning silver at the Senior African Athletics Championships, Olatoye explained that the motivation behind pulling on the national colours continues to grow with every campaign. In the women’s hammer throw, she recorded a best effort of 69.60 metres to earn a place on the podium.
Olatoye described the emotional pull of major championships, saying each event brings fresh feelings and renewed energy. For her, the chance to represent Nigeria is a privilege that never loses its meaning.
Known by many as “Mrs. Reliable,” she added that no two international meets are identical, with every tournament introducing different demands and new chances to sharpen her performance.
The athlete also pointed to the improving level in women’s hammer throw, noting that stronger performances from rival competitors have helped raise the intensity of her own preparation and pushed her to produce her best when it mattered most.
Now that the continental medal has been secured, Olatoye revealed that her attention has moved on to Commonwealth Games preparations, where she aims to deliver an even stronger showing for Team Nigeria.
