Stade Rennes have entered the race for Super Eagles defender Emmanuel Fernandez, adding the 23-year-old to their summer shortlist as interest from several major clubs continues to rise.
Fernandez’s growing European interest
- Rennes have identified Fernandez as a potential target for the current transfer window.
- Alongside the French club, Feyenoord, Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund are also reported to be monitoring the player.
- Rennes are said to be weighing Fernandez in the same recruitment discussions as Toulouse centre-back Charlie Cresswell and Wolves defender Yerson Mosquera.
Fernandez joined Rangers from Peterborough last summer for roughly £3.5 million, with the agreement understood to include a substantial sell-on clause.
He then put together a strong campaign in Scotland, delivering an impressive 2025/26 spell that featured 27 appearances and five goals across the Scottish Premiership and Top Six fixtures.
Transfermarkt currently places a value of €18 million on the Nigerian international, who has earned three senior caps to date.
Rangers, meanwhile, are reportedly holding out for a fee in the region of £20 million to £35 million, with a minimum asking price set at £25 million.
Despite that, Fernandez indicated late in last season that he was content with his situation at Ibrox, saying: “I’m happy where I am and I still have four years left on my contract.”
Even with that message, the defender’s profile appears to be continuing to climb across Europe as Rennes and other clubs weigh up potential moves.
