President Bola Tinubu has sent congratulations to Rangers International FC after the club captured the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League title, calling the feat a standout accomplishment and a reflection of its long-running football tradition.
Rangers clinched the league crown for a record ninth time, finishing the campaign with 68 points from 38 matches and edging their nearest challengers, Rivers United.
In a statement released through his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu praised the club’s leadership, players and supporters in Enugu for delivering a successful season.

Tinubu pointed to Rangers’ influence on Nigerian football during the 1970s and 1980s, referencing the club’s performances across Africa, including reaching the final of the African Cup of Champion Clubs in 1975.
He also recalled that Rangers went on to lift the African Cup Winners’ Cup in 1977, underlining the depth of the club’s continental pedigree.
Tributes beyond the pitch
The President further credited Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah for backing youth and sports development, saying the title-winning campaign mirrors the value of that approach.
“I must also congratulate Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State on the victory of Rangers International FC. This victory is an obvious fruit of his administration’s investments in youth and sports in the state. I commend him,” Tinubu said.
He added that Rangers, among Nigeria’s oldest clubs, has produced a number of players who have brought recognition to the country on the world stage.
Tinubu then turned his attention to Rivers United, applauding the team for its strong run throughout the season and for maintaining sportsmanship during the campaign.
Finally, the President expressed his hopes for both clubs as they prepare to represent Nigeria in next season’s CAF Champions League.
