The relatives of Victor Udoh, a former Golden Eaglets standout, have asked that an autopsy be carried out after his death in Abuja over the weekend.
A post-mortem examination is expected to take place after the Eid el-Kabir celebrations, but only once court approval is granted. At this stage, no arrests have been reported and the circumstances behind his passing have not been officially established.
Those close to the matter say Udoh trained in the area near the hills between Kubwa and Bwari on the day he died, documenting the session through posts on social media. He then returned home, and after friends were unable to get in touch with him by phone, they forced entry into his room and later discovered his body.
“A lot of false stories have been published about what led up to his death, and that is why an autopsy is now crucial,” one source said.
The family wants clarity on what caused the death of a player who was described as fit and well on the day he died. Udoh had also recently secured a visa with the intention of restarting his career in the Czech Republic.
