Wike Tells Super Eagles Fans Nigeria Is Unhappy After World Cup Snub

Sports

Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has voiced his frustration at the Super Eagles missing out on the FIFA World Cup taking place in the United States, Mexico and Canada, passing on his message through former Nigeria captain Joseph Yobo.

“I want to use this opportunity through you to let the Super Eagles know that we are not pleased,” Wike said during a public appearance attended by Yobo.

“I watched the tournament, and some countries I had never even heard of before ended up qualifying to participate. Joseph Yobo, please go and tell them we are not happy.”

Wike’s comments mirror the anger felt by many Nigerian football fans after the national team failed to reach the 48-team finals—the competition’s first edition to include 10 African sides.
