{"id":1295,"date":"2026-06-01T09:36:48","date_gmt":"2026-06-01T06:36:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/zalebs.com\/news\/white-tigers-win-lagos-island-spires-5-aside-again-claim-third-straight-title\/"},"modified":"2026-06-01T09:36:48","modified_gmt":"2026-06-01T06:36:48","slug":"white-tigers-win-lagos-island-spires-5-aside-again-claim-third-straight-title","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/zalebs.com\/news\/white-tigers-win-lagos-island-spires-5-aside-again-claim-third-straight-title\/","title":{"rendered":"White Tigers Win Lagos Island Spires 5-Aside Again, Claim Third Straight Title"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>White Tigers Football Club have once again been crowned champions of the Spires 5-Aside Naija Street Soccer Lagos Island divisional championship, extending their winning run to a third straight season with a 5-2 victory over Greater Tomorrow FC in Saturday\u2019s final at Ikoyi Recreational Park.<\/p>\n<h2>White Tigers retain the Lagos Island crown<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>White Tigers Football Club won the Spires 5-Aside Naija Street Soccer Lagos Island divisional championship for the third consecutive season.<\/li>\n<li>They beat Greater Tomorrow FC 5-2 in the final.<\/li>\n<li>The decisive match was played at Ikoyi Recreational Park on Saturday.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Emmanuel Olom\u2019s coached team put in a commanding performance to keep hold of the title, while Greater Tomorrow FC finished the campaign as runners-up.<\/p>\n<h2>Third-place finish decided on penalties<\/h2>\n<p>With the medals also on the line, Alphas FC secured third place in the playoff by overcoming Dolphin FC.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Alphas FC defeated Dolphin FC 3-2 on penalties.<\/li>\n<li>The teams were level 3-3 after regulation time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Prize money and individual honours<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>White Tigers FC received \u20a6500,000 for winning the Lagos Island division.<\/li>\n<li>Greater Tomorrow FC collected \u20a6300,000 as runners-up.<\/li>\n<li>Alphas FC earned \u20a6100,000 for finishing third.<\/li>\n<li>White Tigers\u2019 Ajo Azeez won the top scorer award, taking home \u20a650,000.<\/li>\n<li>Ajo Azeez scored six goals in three matches.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All three clubs\u2014White Tigers FC, Greater Tomorrow FC, and Alphas FC\u2014will represent the Lagos Island division at the state championship scheduled for November 2026.<\/p>\n<h2>Founder outlines growth plans for the competition<\/h2>\n<p>Tournament founder Dr. Bankole Alibay described the divisional event as a success and laid out plans to broaden the competition beyond the state level, with hopes of reaching a continental stage.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dr. Bankole Alibay said the organisers have \u201credefined 5-aside football\u201d in the West African sub-region.<\/li>\n<li>He stated the goal is to make the tournament the most commercially viable competition not just in Nigeria, but also across the continent.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Alibay also indicated that the forthcoming state championship will be linked with the Sports-Meet-Tech initiative, created to develop players with abilities beyond the pitch.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the Spires 5-Aside is intended as more than a football tournament, describing it as a \u201cdeliberate propeller of young people to greater opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Next stops after divisional championships<\/h2>\n<p>Following the conclusion of divisional championships in Ikorodu, Epe, and Lagos Island, the Spires 5-Aside tour will move to additional locations in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The competition will next visit Ikeja.<\/li>\n<li>It will also hold events in Badagry in the coming weeks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>White Tigers Football Club have once again been crowned champions of the Spires 5-Aside Naija Street Soccer Lagos Island divisional championship, extending their winning run to a third straight season with a 5-2 victory over Greater Tomorrow FC in Saturday\u2019s final at Ikoyi Recreational Park.
