The endorsement for Hon. Jemili Adigun Akingbade was announced in a statement delivered by Samuel Ogunrinola, the Secretary of the Afon Youth Movement, acting on behalf of traditional rulers, community leaders, youth and women groups, artisans, market leaders, and other political stakeholders across more than 750 villages and settlements within the constituency on Friday.<\/p>\n
Stakeholders said the decision was driven by what they described as \u201cpatience, calculation and strategic positioning\u201d by leaders in the area.<\/p>\n
They added that the constituency has moved beyond \u201cpolitics of whispers,\u201d presenting the endorsement as an open and direct declaration of support for continuity.<\/p>\n
The statement further stressed that Akingbade\u2019s earlier electoral successes were tied to democratic processes, and not to any form of imposition.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt no point in his political journey has he been imposed on the people. His emergence has always been through the ballot box, reflecting the trust and confidence of the electorate,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n
The stakeholders said Akingbade\u2019s bid for a fourth term is constitutionally legitimate and should be assessed based on his record rather than political emotions.<\/p>\n
They pointed to his role in grassroots governance, highlighting several initiatives, including support for the creation of Afon LCDA, the provision of boreholes, road construction, empowerment programmes, and educational efforts.<\/p>\n
They also praised Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun for encouraging consensus politics within the ruling party.<\/p>\n
The statement specifically referenced the selection of Solomon Olamilekan Adeola as the APC governorship flag bearer, describing it as \u201ca reflection of inclusiveness and political wisdom.\u201d<\/p>\n
Responding to the endorsement, Hon. Jemili Adigun Akingbade thanked supporters for their backing, saying he was encouraged by the mood among residents.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am excited today because our people are happy and they want the House of Assembly position to remain in Isokan, particularly the Afon zone.<\/p>\n
\u201cLeadership is not about oppressing people but about bringing development and uplifting the community. I have always remained among my people, and we will continue to carry everyone along.\u201d<\/p>\n
Also speaking at the event, Oba Ladi of Afon, His Royal Majesty Oba Abdul Rasheed Adewanre, called the gathering a historic confirmation of unity.<\/p>\n
\u201cToday\u2019s gathering is glorious because our people came out en masse to confirm the consensus candidate chosen by leaders. He is well known to us and trusted by the community,\u201d the monarch said.<\/p>\n
The royal father said he also welcomed improvements under the administration of Bola Tinubu, noting that fuel is now easier to obtain. \u201cThere was a time people struggled at petrol stations, but now fuel is available,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Stakeholders used the occasion to assure Governor Abiodun, Senator Adeola, and Hon. Akingbade of their commitment to mobilize voters and sustain unity across the constituency in the run-up to elections.<\/p>\n
