Thierry Henry has criticised Teboho Mokoena\u2019s celebration after the midfielder scored an equalising penalty as South Africa drew the Czech Republic.<\/p>\n
The Arsenal legend took aim at the elaborate dance routine that followed the spot-kick, arguing it did not fit the moment in the match.<\/p>\n
Henry said the performance was unnecessary because the tie had not been won.<\/p>\n
He added: \u201cMaybe I\u2019ll sound harsh, but I have to be honest. That celebration was difficult for me to understand. It\u2019s a penalty to make it 1-1, not a winning goal in a World Cup final. You would think they had just won the tournament. Come on, guys.<\/p>\n
\u201cI understand the emotion, I understand what the goal means, and I understand the pressure they were under. But there has to be some perspective. The job wasn\u2019t finished. There was still a lot of football left to play.<\/p>\n
Henry said he would rather see players celebrate in a way that reflects there is still work to do immediately after restoring parity.<\/p>\n
While Henry acknowledged South Africa\u2019s response and the mental strength shown to come back, he insisted the celebration should not distract from finishing the job.<\/p>\n
He said: \u201cPersonally, I prefer when players celebrate like they know there\u2019s more work to do. Get the ball, get back to the centre circle, and go try to win the game.\u201d<\/p>\n
