He serves as chair of the Senate Committee on ICT and Cybersecurity, a portfolio that has helped define his public profile in national politics.<\/p>\n
At a stakeholders\u2019 meeting of the All Progressives Congress in Ogun Central in Abeokuta on Thursday, Governor Dapo Abiodun named Salisu as the party\u2019s consensus candidate for the senatorial seat.<\/p>\n
Abiodun said Salisu\u2014who previously worked as his Chief of Staff during the governor\u2019s first term\u2014had proven himself to be both dependable and consistent in leadership and administration.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe is consistent. He is dependable and reliable,\u201d the governor said at the meeting.<\/p>\n
Abiodun added that the senator would continue the work he began earlier in office, while also making changes in areas he had not addressed during his first term.<\/p>\n
Senator Olamilekan Adeola Yayi, described as the party\u2019s consensus gubernatorial candidate, urged APC members to back Salisu with the same level of enthusiasm they had shown during their support for him.<\/p>\n
Yayi said the call for unity was intended for the benefit of the people of the state.<\/p>\n
In his acceptance remarks, Salisu\u2014who is a Fellow of the Nigeria Computer Society (FNCS) and also a serving lawmaker\u2014thanked party stakeholders for what he described as strong and overwhelming backing.<\/p>\n
He pledged to justify the confidence placed in him and to continue delivering on expectations from his constituency.<\/p>\n
Salisu was born on August 3, 1964. He is a Nigerian politician and an ICT specialist.<\/p>\n
Born in Abeokuta, he earned degrees in Computer Science and Management from the University of Lagos, including a B.Sc., an M.Sc., and an MBA, and also completed executive training at the Harvard Kennedy School.<\/p>\n
Before entering politics, he worked with major organisations including Total, Mobil, and ETB, and later founded Simplex Automation Systems, an ICT firm.<\/p>\n
In 2019, he became Chief of Staff to Governor Dapo Abiodun, serving in that role until 2023. He then won election as senator in 2023.<\/p>\n
During the 10th Senate, he chairs the Committee on ICT and Cybersecurity and also serves as Vice Chairman of Media and Public Affairs.<\/p>\n
As of 2026, Salisu has been leading efforts connected to the Digital Economy and E-Governance Bill, supporting digital journalism through donations of equipment, and promoting education by providing free JAMB forms to students in his constituency.<\/p>\n
