Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) president Isaiah Benjamin has called on journalists to demonstrate professionalism, integrity and accuracy as the country marks this year\u2019s World Sports Journalists Day.<\/p>\n
In his message of commemoration, Benjamin stressed that sports journalism is far more than simply delivering scores and results. He said it serves a wider purpose by helping to highlight compelling stories, encouraging transparency, and contributing to the continued growth of sport.<\/p>\n
Benjamin further urged media practitioners to embrace modern tools, including digital platforms and artificial intelligence, while insisting that such adoption must not dilute the core standards of fairness, objectivity and credibility.<\/p>\n
The SWAN leader also reiterated the association\u2019s dedication to developing its membership through capacity-building initiatives and partnerships aimed at strengthening skills and improving practice across the profession.<\/p>\n
He acknowledged the work of sports reporters, noting their commitment even under challenging working conditions, and called for closer cooperation among the media, government, sports federations and other key stakeholders to accelerate progress for Nigerian sport.<\/p>\n
