Real Madrid say they have prevailed in a legal dispute with a residents\u2019 association that complained about \u201cnoise pollution\u201d linked to concerts staged at the Santiago Bernab\u00e9u.<\/p>\n
A Spanish judge ruled in January that concerts held at the stadium\u2014including performances by American pop megastar Taylor Swift\u2014had breached prescribed noise limits. The court said there were enough \u201cindications\u201d to treat the reported disturbances as a potential criminal offence.<\/p>\n
The action was brought against Real Madrid Estadio, the entity that operates the Bernab\u00e9u, along with Jose Angel Sanchez, described as the administrator and the club president Florentino Perez\u2019s right-hand man.<\/p>\n
In a statement, the club said the court \u201cclearly and categorically concludes that neither Jose Angel Sanchez\u2026 nor Real Madrid Estadio SL bear responsibility for any criminal offence in relation to the concerts held at the Santiago Bernab\u00e9u.\u201d<\/p>\n
Los Blancos added that the charges were dismissed and pointed to the \u201cconcert promoting companies\u201d as the parties \u201cresponsible for complying with the decibel limits.\u201d<\/p>\n
When contacted by AFP, the communications office of the Madrid courts said it could not make a public comment at that time, noting that \u201cnot all parties have yet been notified\u201d of the ruling.<\/p>\n
Real Madrid\u2019s legal win could open the door to staging concerts again at the Bernab\u00e9u in the future, particularly if sound-proofing measures are improved.<\/p>\n
The club have invested heavily in the venue, spending more than 1.5 billion euros (1.76bn dollars) on stadium renovations. Their aim has been to generate additional income by hosting major concerts and other events.<\/p>\n
Yet since September 2024, many of the shows planned for the Bernab\u00e9u have instead taken place at Atletico Madrid\u2019s Metropolitano stadium, which is located outside the city.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
