After years of working quietly on her songwriting and honing her sound, Khumbuzile Tshabalala\u2014better known as K\u2019zee Donga\u2014is preparing to step into the spotlight. <\/p>\n
The singer-songwriter is set to unveil her debut single, Friday Night,<\/i> across all major streaming services on July 10.<\/p>\n
Even with music all around her growing up, K\u2019zee Donga says uncertainty kept her from sharing her work for much longer than she wanted. She admits that for years she stored her lyrics on her computer, unsure if she was truly strong enough as an artist\u2014or if listeners would connect with what she was writing.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor years, I kept my lyrics hidden on my computer because I questioned whether I was good enough and whether people would connect with my music,\u201d K\u2019zee Donga says.<\/p>\n
Born in Soweto, she traces the start of her musical journey back to when she was eight years old, after watching the blockbuster film Titanic.<\/i> Inspired by the emotions in the story, she wrote her first song and performed it for her childhood friends.<\/p>\n
Music was a family affair, too. K\u2019zee Donga explains that her motivation deepened over time alongside her late sister, who took part in local gospel choirs, while her brother later led a choir. <\/p>\n
During her school years, she also became involved in theatre and musical productions, building experience and confidence long before she released anything publicly.<\/p>\n
For K\u2019zee Donga, Friday Night<\/i> is more than just a new track\u2014it marks a turning point. She describes the song as \u201ca new chapter,\u201d explaining that she kept her music to herself for years because she didn\u2019t feel ready. Now, releasing the single is her way of leaning into bravery and sharing a part of who she is.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis song represents a new chapter for me. For years, I kept my music to myself because I wasn\u2019t sure if I was ready. Releasing Friday Night<\/i> is my way of choosing courage and finally sharing a piece of who I am with the world.\u201d<\/p>\n
Musically, Friday Night<\/i> combines Amapiano and House influences. K\u2019zee Donga frames it as an uplifting anthem encouraging listeners to let loose, shake off their worries, and embrace the kind of freedom that comes with great music, great company, and being present in the moment.<\/p>\n
She also teamed up with producer and DJ Airburn Sounds as well as rapper CPT Switch. The singer calls the collaboration \u201can incredible experience,\u201d crediting each contributor with bringing something distinct to the final sound.<\/p>\n
Speaking about how the sessions went, K\u2019zee Donga says the studio chemistry felt natural and that she believes listeners will notice it in the music. She adds that the project taught her a great deal and helped her gain confidence as she takes her first steps in the industry.<\/p>\n
With the song now ready to be heard, she hopes it sparks a simple reminder to enjoy the moment. While she acknowledges that life can be difficult, she believes there is always room for joy, celebration, and making memories with the people around you.<\/p>\n
