The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) said it regrets that power supply from its C2 Maitama Substation is currently unavailable to customers in Maitama, Abuja, and nearby communities. The company linked the outage to what it described as the invasion and unlawful takeover of the facility by land grabbers, led by an assistant director of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Mr. Chinedu Okoro.<\/p>\n
AEDC said the C2 Maitama Substation is a key part of its distribution network, supplying electricity to homes, commercial establishments, diplomatic missions, and government institutions. It added that during the encroachment, essential cables and other network assets were damaged, leaving the site unsafe and making it technically impossible to continue delivering power from the installation.<\/p>\n
The company also stated that it has petitioned the relevant authorities regarding the actions of individuals involved, stressing that the substation and the land on which it sits belong to AEDC. AEDC said it expects a full investigation and measures taken in line with the law.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe strongly condemn any encroachment on critical national infrastructure, as such actions deprive communities of essential electricity supply, disrupt economic activities, and compromise public interest,\u201d AEDC said. The firm expressed regret for the inconvenience and said efforts to restore service will begin once the substation is secured and the damaged infrastructure is repaired.<\/p>\n
