The Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development has joined forces with sports investment group Templar-Adrenale to stage a nationwide basketball talent selection event on Saturday, May 23.<\/p>\n
The showcase is scheduled for the newly refurbished Dolphins Basketball Court in Mongoro, Ikeja, and will bring together over 200 young players from across Nigeria. The participants will compete for places in a high-performance development pathway aimed at identifying and nurturing emerging basketball talent.<\/p>\n
Organisers said the final group, made up of athletes aged 13 to 18, was selected through a multi-month scouting process that started at the National Sports Festival in Abeokuta before moving into evaluations across different regions and states.<\/p>\n
Those chosen at the Lagos event are set to become the inaugural intake for the Templar-Adrenale High-Performance Development Program. Project officials described the programme as a full development platform, providing advanced basketball coaching alongside support for formal education, mentorship, character-building initiatives, and opportunities to gain international exposure.<\/p>\n
The selection event has already attracted strong attention within the local basketball ecosystem, with coaches, talent scouts, sports administrators, and youth development advocates all showing interest in the programme\u2019s direction and impact.<\/p>\n
Hon. Adeyinka Anthony Adeboye, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development, is also expected to be honoured during the event with an international recognition award from partners operating in the United States. The recognition is said to reflect continued efforts by his office to promote grassroots sport and youth empowerment initiatives across Nigeria.<\/p>\n
Dolphins Basketball Court\u2014where the trials will be held\u2014was recently upgraded by Templar-Adrenale into a modern training venue, forming part of the partnership\u2019s infrastructure support component.<\/p>\n
Sports analysts view the initiative as a move toward a more structured approach to player development in Nigeria, arguing that it should help shift the emphasis from simply spotting talent to building athletes over the long term.<\/p>\n
