The Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF) has expressed strong appreciation for a group of its leadership figures, praising their patriotism and generosity as preparations intensify for the 2026 Commonwealth Games.<\/p>\n
In a statement highlighting their support for the campaign, the federation noted that 30 boxers have been in camp since April, with the federation itself taking full responsibility for their welfare from the start of training.<\/p>\n
The NBF credited the \u201cselfless\u201d attitude of several executive members, describing their contributions as a clear sign of commitment to the athletes ahead of the Games.<\/p>\n
Among those commended were Major General Ola Oyelade, Mrs. Dorcas Olaosebikan, Iyabode Steven, Barr. Emoni Williams, and other officials, for providing both financial and material assistance to boxers currently training in camp in Lagos. The team\u2019s preparations are aimed at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, which begin in July.<\/p>\n
NBF vice president Omonlei Imadu also singled out the board members for their dedication to athlete welfare.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs a federation, we want to thank these board members for their patriotism. Their actions reflect a genuine commitment to improving boxing in the country. We will continue to urge our colleagues to show the same spirit of selflessness, so we can work together to carry out our responsibility of revitalising boxing at every level,\u201d Imadu said.<\/p>\n
Imadu further reiterated the federation\u2019s determination to return from Scotland with medals.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur mindset has not changed. We firmly expect every boxer travelling to Scotland to bring back a medal for Nigeria. That is why we took the initiative as the only federation to assemble our athletes in camp early. Thirty boxers have been in camp since April, and the federation has fully handled their welfare since training began,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Nigeria will send a squad of ten boxers\u2014covering both men and women\u2014to the 23rd Commonwealth Games, taking place from July 23 to August 2 in Glasgow, Scotland.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
