Senator Adeola won a commanding victory in the ruling party\u2019s governorship primary, securing 304,055 votes to defeat rival contender Mr. Abayomi Hunye, who received zero votes in the ballot conducted across the state.<\/p>\n
The contest unfolded after Hunye had earlier argued that he should still be allowed to take part, despite the fact that Adeola was adopted as the APC\u2019s consensus candidate by a majority of party stakeholders, leaders, and Governor Dapo Abiodun.<\/p>\n
Announcing the outcome at the APC secretariat in Abeokuta, the chairman of the Governorship Primary Election Committee, Mr. Wale Ohu, said the party had 343,292 registered voters, while 305,287 members were accredited to participate in the exercise.<\/p>\n
Ohu explained that there were two contestants in the primary. \u201cSenator Solomon Adeola scored 304,055 votes while Mr. Abayomi Hunye polled zero votes,\u201d he said, adding that the results confirmed Adeola as the victor. He then declared, \u201cWith these results, I hereby declare Senator Solomon Adeola as the winner of the contest and the party\u2019s governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Ogun State.\u201d<\/p>\n
In his acceptance remarks, Adeola pledged to build on the accomplishments of Governor Dapo Abiodun and to protect peace and unity within the APC, framing his nomination as an opportunity to continue the party\u2019s work in government.<\/p>\n
He also commended the governor for ensuring that the primary election was conducted peacefully and smoothly, saying the process was unprecedented in Ogun State\u2019s political history.<\/p>\n
\u201cI never imagined the exercise would be this peaceful. By the grace of God, on May 29, 2027, we will witness a smooth transition of government,\u201d Adeola said.<\/p>\n
Responding, Governor Abiodun portrayed Adeola\u2019s emergence as a sign of the trust APC members across the state place in his leadership ability. He added that the calm and orderly manner in which the primary was held amounted to a historic moment for Ogun State politics.<\/p>\n
The governor noted that such a smooth exercise was unprecedented in the state\u2019s more than 50-year political history, underscoring that the outcome reflected broad confidence in the direction the party intends to take toward the 2027 election.<\/p>\n
